The creator of Family Circus Bil Keane is reportedly passed away on Tuesday. The legendary creator died of congestive heart failure, at his residence in Paradise Valley, Arizona. He was 89 at that time. Keane, who was born in Philadelphia, taught himself to draw.
Bil Keane eventually dropped the second L from his name (making it ‘BIL’), when signing his cartons, in order to distinguish himself from other Bills. The first cartoon Bil Keane created was published in 1936 in the Philadelphia Daily News. he also once served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. In 1960, Keane began drawing the one-panel Family Circus comic.
